Beloved comic actor Dudley Moore (1935-2002) was also a dazzling jazz pianist and a composer of wit and depth. The Chris Ingham Trio revisits Dudley’s evocative and appealing 1960s jazz in a rich, rewarding presentation packed with striking music and fascinating anecdotes.
This acclaimed show has been warmly received at Ronnie Scott’s and in concerts and festivals throughout the UK, while the group’s CD Dudley has received rave reviews, fulsomely approving this overdue celebration of a remarkable British musician.
Dudley Moore, beloved comic actor, we all know about. He was part of the theatre smash hit Beyond The Fringe (1960-64) and the influential TV programme Not Only But Also (1965-70) before becoming a Hollywood movie star (1979 onwards).
However, for all the acclaim he received as an actor, and the affection with which he is remembered as a hilarious and lovable personality, perhaps the most interesting thing about Dudley's reputation is how undervalued he is as a jazzman and composer. He was a virtuoso pianist, brilliantly exploiting the stylistic possibilities of Errol Garner and Oscar Peterson in late sessions at Peter Cook’s Establishment Club, dazzling appearances on television, and sparkling trio albums for Decca.
Dudley composed quirky and imaginative jazz originals, as well as witty movie scores. His music conveys something about his complex and conflicted life - one filled with light and shade, joy and woe. This emotional range and depth makes Dudley's music an intimate and heart-felt pleasure for players and audiences.
The Chris Ingham Trio features three outstanding musicians who bring a wealth of experience and passion to their performances. Pianist Chris Ingham, praised as "one of Britain's best singer-pianists" (Evening Standard), is known for his acclaimed jazz shows and work as a record producer, author, and composer. Bassist Malcolm Creese, an internationally renowned jazz artist, has performed with legends like Cleo Laine, Mel Tormé and George Shearing. Drummer George Double, a versatile performer with extensive West End and jazz credits, collaborates widely and is a respected drum educator. Together, they create vibrant and unforgettable jazz experiences.
